What is backlight bleed?

Backlight bleed occurs when the backlight on an LCD monitor leaks through the edges or corners of the panel, creating bright patches on dark screens. It is a manufacturing tolerance issue present to some degree in nearly all LCD monitors.

How do I test for backlight bleed?

Enter fullscreen mode to fill the entire panel with a pure black screen. Dim the room lights and look for bright or hazy patches near the edges and corners. Raise the brightness slider to reveal subtle bleed.

What is the difference between backlight bleed and IPS glow?

Backlight bleed appears as fixed bright patches near the panel edges regardless of viewing angle. IPS glow is a silver-white shimmer that appears in the corners and shifts when you change your viewing angle. Backlight bleed affects all LCD types; IPS glow is specific to IPS panels.

Is some backlight bleed normal?

Yes. Minor backlight bleed visible only in a dark room at maximum brightness is within normal manufacturing tolerances. Severe bleed visible at normal brightness with ambient lighting may be eligible for a replacement under the manufacturer warranty.
